After watching the FIRST Kickoff stream, we broke into small groups to study the games rules. We assigned each group a section before the whole team reassembled to review any critical rule changes from the previous season. Once we confirmed that all team members knew the game dynamics nd rules, we began jotting down all the possible actions a robot could accomplish according to the manual. Make a table with all the tasks needed. Next, make a table with the priority of tasks.
1. Necessary mechanisms our robot must have.
2. Features we would like to include.
3. Attributes we will only include if there is remaining time.
We first organized our priorities into categories based on how important we believed each would be to include it to the final robot design.
We then split the chart into arm, intake, and gripper sections.Â
Make three priorities for the robot to accomplish -pick up game pieces and move them to correct location -move in a certain fashion -etc
Next, look all over the internet to see if there have been similar challenges in the past. Look for designs that have already been done. Write ideas next to the subsystem categories.
Brainstorming:
Draw all over the whiteboards
Draw more scaled and focused ideas on paper
CAD if needed
Start making mock-ups, cardboard, cheap stuff we have, etc
Test
Rinse, repeat
